The Importance of Eating Right

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. The champagne is flowing the cookies are everywhere and big, festive parties are happening every weekend. So, in between all of these wonderful things, we have to try and eat right or things will just get out of control. They say if we aren’t careful, during the holidays we can gain as much as 15 pounds.

So what can you do? First, try your very best to stay as active as possible. If you are too busy for all of your regular gym workouts, then at least do this. When you go shopping, park farther away from the store and walk. Take an extra lap or two around the store or the mall. At night, when you are putting things away, take an extra trip, don’t pile yourself up with things.

And, when you are not at a party, try to eat right. Fill up on leafy green salads and vegetables and lean protein. Chicken, fish, legumes and leave off the rich sauces and go light on the butter.

Opt for healthier choices, such as:

3.5 ounces of lean chicken or salmon (31 g and 24 g respectively)

6 ounces of plain Greek yogurt (17 g)

1 cup of skim milk (9 g)

1 cup of cooked beans (about 18 g).

Protein powders can offer about 30 g per scoop and can be added to all kinds of meals like oatmeal, shakes, and yogurt. While food sources are the best, supplemental protein can help if you struggle with consuming enough calories and protein from your regular diet.

When you do have time to fit in a work out, do more with weights and less cardio. In order to maximize muscle growth and improve recovery, it is suggested that consuming a drink or meal with a carbohydrate-to-protein ratio of about three-to-one or four-to-one within 30 minutes after your workout is key. Muscle burns more calories than fat, which means some of those crazy things you have been indulging in could actually get burned off. Some, not all…

Here’s to a happy Holiday Season for you and all of your loved ones!

Summer Time in San Clemente

aileen brazeau, san clemente ca business owner, san clemente villas, socialite, San Clemente is an enchanting beachside town and an up and coming community all at once. The closer you get to the ocean and Del Mar avenue, the more  you see of  the Ole Hanson style of old San Clemente . The other side of the hill is where the newer housing developments are. The news homes are often built with red tile roofs and stucco exterior, that mimic the look and feel of the older homes closer to the beach.

It doesn’t matter much, though. Everyone who lives in this beautiful beach side community is proud to be a part of it. There is always something going on here in San Clemente, and the San Clemente Villas is positioned in the perfect location to take advantage of all of it.

One of our biggest events each year is the Ocean Festival- Greatest Show on Surf. There is something for people of all ages In the morning there is a pancake breakfast prepared by our city lifeguards and other volunteers. the at beginning at 9:00 am there are different distance runs for children ages 4-12. each ages group gets to compete with their peers. There are Lifeguard Competitions for men and women, Rescue Relays, Ironman competitions and Paddleboard Rescue Relay.

There is also the great  Rubber Ducky  Race and on Sunday, the sand sculpting competition. If you have never been, try to get here, but I warn you it gets crowded, so the earlier you get here, the better your chances of seeing everything.

Throughout the summer, San Clemente also hosts concerts by the beach. On Thursday, July 27: Reggae band Common Sense will be performing as part of the free summer concerts series, from 6pm to sundown just north of the pier.

Aileen Runs for Honor

A couple of years ago I joined a running club. I did this because I am committed to staying fit and running seems like a great way to stay in shape and to do something good for my community.

This weekend my friends and I ran in the Aloha Run in Long Beach California. The Aloha Run is lots of fun, and it’s also in support of a great cause.  Honor Run is a very special charity, Honor Flight. Honor Flight was started by one man who wanted to Honor a Veteran by taking him to visit  the Memorial in Washington for the War he fought in. A war where he defended his country and lost friends. It has grown and there are branches all over the country, and here in Southern California which flies Veterans to the WWII, Korean and Viet Nam Memorial.

It was my honor to be a contributor to this worthy cause. To read more about what Honor Flight is and does, head to their Website at https://www.honorflight.org.

San Clemente Villas is a Happening Place

The mornings are getting darker, the night air a bit cooler, fall is coming. Although for us coastal residents it’s usually the time when the weather gets warmer. Regardless, the year is winding down, and soon we will be celebrating Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. I can’t believe how time has flown. It seems to go faster every year.

As co-owner of San Clemente Villas, I encourage my staff to plan activities that our residents will enjoy. There are some big events, like the Luau on August 17th and the Talent Show that we held on August 26th. There are Chamber Mixers, Dance Parties and fundraisers held here at the Villas as well. We always have a few more spectacular events as the holidays approach, but we also have regular monthly events as the Villas .

Alzheimer’s Research

At our San Clemente Villa’s we have an entire wing devoted to Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients. We see the ravages of this disease each and every day, and we know that there will be more cases of Alzheimer’s and Dementia coming up with all of the Boomer’s aging.

It is vital that there be some significant break through in the treatment and perhaps a cure for this disease, or I am not certain  how the system will cope with the sheer numbers.

This year my staff and I participated in the walk at Doheny Beach in October. Here are just a few of the photos we took that day:

Fall Is Coming

fall wardrobe choices for Aileen Brazeau

from Pinterest

Our weather is still warm, and thank goodness we have finally had a few rain storms, but I am getting excited about putting some new fall outfits together. We don’t get much of a change of season here in South Orange County. But the leaves will turn, the evenings and early mornings will get cooler. The air smells fresher and more crisp. Fall is kind of the best of both worlds for me. Warm, breezy afternoons, cool evenings, and a chance to switch to warmer fall colors for a few months.

Of course Fall also means that another year has gone by all too quickly, and that part bothers me a bit. It seems each passing year goes by more quickly. I wish I could make things slow down just a little. The other side of Fall season means the Holidays are coming, and I love them. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years..the best time of the year.

Aileen Networking

As Co-Owner of San Clemente Villas part of my job is to be out in the community talking about our beautiful Villas by the Sea. We sponsor Chamber of Commerce mixers at San Clemente Villas, and whenever possible attend local charity and networking events. Back in July I attended a local business networking event. Not only was it enjoyable, I got to see some friends that I hadn’t seen for a while, and to top it off, I made some new friends. Networking is an important and enjoyable part of being a business owner!!

If you are invited to local events in your community, take the time to go. Clear a little space in your busy day and get out, meet new people, connect with old friends.
